Senior Championship
St Loman’s Mullingar 3.17 The Downs 0.17
Match Report by Andrew Mc Kenna
St Loman’s got their championship defence off to a winning start in TEG Cusack Park last Sunday evening with a nine-point win over The Downs as they chase down a historic fourth consecutive championship title.
The Blues were off the mark quickly with 5 points in the first 10 mins with Ken Casey and Shane Dempsey scoring 2 points each. Their lead could have been improved further but a fantastic save from The Downs goalkeeper Kevin Maguire turned TJ Cox’s effort over the bar and the Saints had to settle for a point.
Luke Loughlin registered the Downs first score and quickly doubled his tally to make it a 3-point match. Shane Dempsey’s third point was then quickly cancelled out by Loughlin to keep the margin at 3 points. St Loman’s then reeled off 5 unanswered points through a Ken Casey double, long range points from Cox and Dempsey respectively. Finally, a brilliantly taken point from David Windsor made the deficit 8 points before Conor Murray got a badly needed point for The Downs. The Black and Amber side got the final two scores of the half to leave the score at 12 points to 6 points going into the interval.
St Loman’s were out of the blocks slower at the beginning of the second half and conceded 3 points on the trot, all from Loughlin. Both teams then traded scores with Casey and Windsor pointing for the defending champions. Goals proved crucial however as the Blues hit the net twice in a minute. First Kelvin Reilly found TJ Cox who rounded the goalkeeper and calmly found the net. In the blink of an eye it was a second goal as Paddy Dowdall laid the ball off to Ken Casey who hit the back of The Downs net. Casey added another point before a well taken point by Kelvin Reilly stretched the lead for the Saints.
The Downs responded well with four points in a row, with Adam Loughlin’s point the pick of the bunch and it brought the gap back to seven points. Any hope of a comeback was then ended after Paddy Dowdall rounded off a fine performance when his shot went off the post and into the net.
Ken Casey rounded off the scoring with a free bringing his personal tally to 1.07 and leaving the final score 3.17 to 17 points. Ultimately the full forward line of Cox, Dempsey and Casey proved too much for The Down’s defence. Impressive individual performances from David Windsor and Paddy and Dowdall were also instrumental in a nine-point win for the Saints.

Junior Championship
St Lomans Mullingar 4.14 Killucan 4.09
St Lomans made it two wins from two games in the Junior Championship when they overcame a tricky Killucan side on Tuesday evening last. As the score line suggests it was a free-flowing game of football and an entertaining game with some quality scores from both sides throughout.
The blues raced into an early lead with points from Conan O Hara and Garrett Hickey(2). O Hara’s point the result of a great move involving Hickey and Shane Flynn. A nightmare period in the next ten minutes saw Killucan score 2.03 without reply. Garrett Hickey got the blues back into the game with his third point before setting up Conan O Hara for the blues first goal, a tidy finish from the young corner forward. The home side added another goal before the break while Conan O Hara, Tristan Johnson and Daniel Sheridan kicked points for the blues to leave the home side four points in front.
St Lomans upped their game considerably in the second half sparked by a goal from Garrett Hickey with James Cox the provider. It was a tight third quarter with both teams exchanging points, but the final quarter saw the blues dominate. Two crucial goals from Sean Lancaster and Michael Gleeson sent them on course for victory. Garrett Hickey, Conan O Hara and Tristan Graham all added further scores to seal an important win for St Lomans.
This was a hard-earned win with some impressive performances throughout the team. Substitutes Sean Kelly and Oisin Hogan shined upon their introductions while Kevin Regan put in a stellar second half performance at midfield. James Cox while not on the scoresheet was creator of many attacking moves while the full forward line of Conan O Hara, Garrett Hickey and Tristan Graham all kicked crucial scores.
Next up for the blues is The Downs this Tuesday 24th in Molloy Park at 7.30pm!

Minor Championship
The Minor lads travelled to Moate last week and came away with the points after a fine display. They now play Multyfarnham in their final group game this Thursday in Multy at 7pm.
U14 Championship
Our U14 boys were out of luck in both their games last week when they suffered defeat to Kilbeggan Shamrocks and Coralstown Kinnegad. They still have plenty to play for in the upcoming games and their huge efforts in recent games will stand them in good stead!
U8 Boys
Our U8 boys participated in a blitz in Shandonagh on Saturday last where we faced the hosts, Mullingar Shamrocks and Bunbrosna.
We fielded four teams and the skill level and determination on display was incredible. This particular group of players have been making giant strides in recent months and Saturday was further proof of the hard work being done on the training pitch and in their back gardens every evening. All you need is a ball and a wall!
Massive thanks to Shandonagh - and Andy Walshe in particular - for hosting such a well-organized event.
All our lads played every minute of every game and were treated to refreshments by the hosts afterwards.
U8 Girls
St Lomans played host to the latest U8 Girls County Blitz last weekend. With 13 clubs and 18 teams taking part, Lakepoint Park was a sea of colour, as all of the girls played their hearts out. Well done to the two St Lomans teams who put in great performances and continue to go from strength to strength.
Thank you to all our referees and helpers on the day who ensured the event ran so smoothly!
General Meeting
A General Meeting for all club members takes place in the clubhouse this Wednesday 25th at 8.30pm. All members are asked to attend!
