Feis Cup

St Lomans Mullingar 1.10 Mullingar Shamrocks 1.14

St Lomans hosted neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in the 2015 Feis Cup semi final on a floodlit Lakepoint Park on Friday Night last. Both teams short a number of key players put on an impressive spectacle on the 3G surface despite the hindering weather conditions.

It was tit for tat in the opening few minutes as both teams failed to hit the target early on. St Lomans took the lead when a wonderful Conradh Reilly pass found its way to Ken Casey and his effort raised the white flag.  Both teams enjoyed a mini scoring spree with points from Seanie Daly, Paddy Joyce and Darren Keena giving Shamrocks the lead. Shane Dempsey who was impressive throughout reduced the deficit and he soon turned provider for David Windsor who levelled the match. A misplaced pass out of the Shamrocks defence was picked up by wing back David Whelan and he kicked over to give the blues the lead.  The visitors once again had a dominant spell and added further points before a neat finish from substitute Brendan Reilly rolled into the back of the net. Shane Dempsey added to his tally before the break but the visitors held a three point advantage.

St Lomans made a bright start to the second half with a quick point before substitute Chris Gilbert ran through and buried to the net to give St Lomans the lead. It was short lived however and Shamrocks began to dominate the scoreboard registering five unanswered points. The visitors were reduced to fourteen men when referee Brendan Keena waved a red card to Paddy Joyce for an off the ball incident.  It had no major impact on the outcome of the game as Shamrocks held their own. Both teams exchanged points in the closing stages with David Whelan and Shane Dempsey on target for St Lomans but it was Shamrocks who advanced to the final with a four point win.
