Joe Matthews Memorial Cup:

Well done to our U10 boys who competed in the annual Joe Matthews Memorial tournament today. We entered three teams in the competition and they all performed brilliantly.

The Whites topped their group following wins over Maryland/Tang, Moate and Ballynacargy to secure a place in the Cup semi-final. A further win against Athlone secured a place in the Cup final where they were narrowly defeated by an excellent team from The Downs.

The Blues lost their opening game to Athlone by a single score but recovered to record wins over St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge and Multyfarnham to earn a place in the Trophy semi-final. Another win against Ballynacargy earned them a place in the Trophy final which they eventually lost to Shandonagh after a fantastic game.

The younger Navy team also performed brilliantly. After tussles with Millmore Gaels and Athlone they eventually made it to the final of their competition which was won by Mullingar Shamrocks.

So we had three teams in action and all three made it to finals. We didn’t get our hands on any silverware but our strength in depth was very evident today and, most importantly, all our players played significant parts in the action. These lads have plenty of good days ahead of them.

A special word of thanks to Lorcan Sleator for organising the entire competition and to Tess and the Matthews family for their continued support. Joe would have loved to see all the kids in action. He would have been particularly proud of his grandson Cian who wore the colours with distinction today.

Leinster Minor Championship:

Congratulations to Westmeath Minor Boys on their monumental victory after extra-time over Meath in a thrilling encounter. A special mention must go to our own Daire Smyth and Fionn O’Hara who contributed a vital goal on the day.

Under 14 Boys:

St Loman’s Mullingar 7.14 Moate 3.08

The under 14 Boys played their last league game in Lakepoint Park on Thursday evening. Loman’s knew that a win against Moate would leave them at least joint top of the table, no matter how other results went. Moate were first to score, but Loman’s responded strongly by playing very decisive and attacking football and finished the half scoring 3-09. Both teams made full use of all players available on the night, with the introduction of all the players from both the benches. Either side exchanged scores in the second half, the full time score read Loman’s 7-14 to Moate’s 3-08. The win puts St Loman’s in a division one league final. Well done to all the 25 players that togged out for St Loman’s on the night and their coaches.

Under 12 Boys:

St Loman’s under 12 boys travelled to the Downs on Wednesday evening to play two league games.  38 players togged out for St Loman’s and their good run in the league continued with both teams recording wins. Well done to all players and coaches.

Under 8 Girls:

Our U8 Girls were in Shandonagh on Monday evening for the latest round of County Blitzes. Both of our teams put in very skilful and determined performances in all of their games. Up front there were a lot of great scores, whilst defensively there was plenty of blocking and tackling on display. Great credit must go their coaches Maurice, Lorraine, Paddy & Elysia for all of the work they are doing with these girls. Well done everyone. Finally, a big thank you to Nicole and all in Shandonagh who ensured everything ran so smoothly on the night.
