ACFL Division 1:

St Loman’s Mullingar 0.07 Shandonagh 3.12

St Loman’s travelled to Shandonagh in their penultimate league match in Division 1 last Friday night. The Saints were hoping to strengthen their chances of making the League final but were short a number of key players. Whilst the Hosts were looking to consolidate safety in Division 1.

Shandonagh started the brighter and got off the mark with two quick-fire points. Sean Lancaster got the Blues on the scoreboard with a well-taken point. However shortly afterwards, Shandonagh stretched their lead to four points with three consecutive points from Kevin Boyle. David Windsor steadied the ship with an impressive point for the visitors. Both Teams the traded points with Gareth Hickey getting on the score-sheet from a placed ball. The Hosts then struck a hammer blow before half-time scoring 2.01 without reply to leave Loman’s with a mountain to climb in the second Half.

The Second Half came and brought with it more misery for the Saints. After conceding an early point, the Blues then conceded a penalty. Kevin Boyle stepped up for Shandonagh and dispatched it past Jason Daly to put the game beyond doubt. St Loman’s closed the gap marginally with Conradh Reilly and Chris Gilbert both on target with consolation points. The Hosts then extended their leads with three points, two of them from Kevin Boyle. The Visitors got the final two scores of the game, with youngsters Conan O’Hara and Frank Kavanagh scoring excellent points but ultimately it was too little too late for Saints who were comprehensively beaten by a score-line of 3.12 to 0.07.

A very disappointing evening for Loman’s whose fate depends on their final match against The Downs where a win will guarantee a place in the League Final. In truth Shandonagh were by far the better team, with the Blues feeling the strain of missing several key and experienced players. Conan O’Hara, Sean Lancaster and substitute Frank Kavanagh were among the bright sparks for the Visitors, they all kept going to the final whistle. St Loman’s must re-group now before their crucial, final league match against The Downs.

Under 10 Blitz:

Well done to our under-10 boys who took part in a blitz against our neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in Springfield on Saturday morning. We had four teams in action and the football played was truly outstanding. This is a really exciting group of young players who have bonded closely and are improving with every week that passes. Also, well done to all the mams and dads for dropping the boys down and cheering them on. Many thanks to Pat Collins and Mullingar Shamrocks too for a fantastic morning and for the refreshments for all the boys afterwards.
