Oskars Launch Night:

Our official Launch for the 2019 Oskars took place last Friday evening in Eason’s fantastic new store on Pearse Street. We are delighted to welcome back Eason's Mullingar as our main sponsor and we are grateful for their continued support. The launch was a tremendous success and we thank all that turned out for it! Finally a special mention to Ray Dolan for live streaming the event on his page “From Mullingar in Mullingar” which you can check out on our Facebook Page or on Ray’s Youtube channel. On a separate note there will be news on the Oskars released regularly on our Facebook page in the coming weeks. Watch this space!

Under 20 League:

St Loman’s under 20’s began their league campaign last Sunday against Coralstown Kinnegad. Due to various reasons both teams were short on numbers and subsequently both teams played 13-aside. Conditions were difficult on a blustery morning in Lakepoint Park, but the visitors settled quicker with two early points. The Blues responded through a well taken score from Frank Kavanagh after an intricate pass from Sam McCartan. Then came a disastrous few minutes for the Saints with Kinnegad scoring 3 goals and a point without reply. This left St Loman’s with a mountain to climb but they started to get a foothold in the game from then on.

Both teams traded 2 scores each with the impressive Sam McCartan on target twice for the Hosts.  The Blues got back into the game on the stroke of Half-Time through Frank Kavanagh after some well worked build-up play, Kavanagh made no mistake with the finish. The Saints trailed by 8 points at the interval. This was perhaps harsh on St Loman’s as they had a lot of the ball but ultimately didn’t have the scores to show for all their possession.

The Blues looked re-invigorated after the break and a long range point from Frank Kavanagh reduced the arrears to 7 points. Dan Leech restored the eight point gap but St Loman’s narrowed the gap again, with points from Enda Gaffney, Frank Kavanagh and a double from Conan O’Hara. This purple patch put the hosts on the comeback trail and a turnaround was looking possible. Unfortunately for the Saints, Kinnegad would go on to score 2-3 without reply and put an end to any hopes of a comeback. Sam McCartan and Conan O’Hara added a late score each but ultimately they were scant consolation.

The score line was harsh on St Loman’s as they were well in the game for a long time but the old adage ‘goals win games’ was appropriate on this occasion. Despite the defeat there were positives for the Saints including the character they showed after conceding a flurry of goals. They were also without a number of key players but there were impressive individual performances with Frank Kavanagh, Tristan Graham and Enda Gaffney excelling for St Loman’s. The Blues will only improve from here on and a 5-10 to 1-10 perhaps doesn’t reflect the difference between the sides on the day.

Team; Rory Matthews, Kealan Sleator, Kyle Smith, Stephen Sheridan, Oisin Hogan, Tristan Graham, Sam McCartan (0.03), Enda Gaffney (0.01), Jamie Leavy, Dano Fitzsimons, Conor Regan, Conan O’Hara (0.03), Frank Kavanagh (1.3), subs used; Paul Smith.

Westmeath Ladies Minor Championship:

Congratulations to the Westmeath Minor Ladies on their 5.18 to 3.12 win over Wexford. Special mention to St Loman’s Vicky Carr, who started at centre back on the day!

Condolences:

St Loman’s would like to offer its condolences to the Healy family following the passing of James Edward (Eddie) Healy Beechgrove, Mullingar and formerly of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
