St Lomans Mullingar 1.09 Coralstown Kinnegad 2.09


St Lomans travelled to Kinnegad on Friday night last to contest the U17 Championship semi-final. It was played under lights and perfect conditions which ensured for an entertaining sixty minutes.


St Lomans raced into an early lead with two points including one from Cian Cleary. Kinnegad settled into the game and some fine moves saw them kick 1.02 without reply and give them a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.


Both teams exchanged points in the second quarter with Conor Regan, Danny Mc Cartan and Enda Gaffney on target for the blues, Gaffney’s score was the pick of these a wonderful free from distance. Danny Mc Cartan set up Danny Aughey who looked certain to bury home but a wonderful save from the Kinnegad goalkeeper denied him.


St Lomans were dealt a killer blow in the first minute of the restart when the home side buried in their second goal. It left the blues with a near impossible task but to their credit they fought until the final whistle. Cian Cleary, David Aughey(2) and Danny Mc Cartan points kept St Lomans in touch as the teams traded scores. As the game headed for stoppage time the blues were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty, Fionn O Hara coolly converted the kick but Kinnegad held on for a three-point win.
