ACL Division 1

St Lomans Mullingar 0.14 Rosemount 2.17

St Lomans hosted Rosemount in the Division 1 league on Sunday morning last and the visitors deservingly left with the points after a dominant display. The positive for the blues on the day was the form of Shane Dempsey who continued his scoring streak registering thirteen of the fourteen points for St Lomans.

There was very little between the teams in the opening ten minutes with St Lomans having the slight advantage and were in front thanks for three Shane Dempsey points. Crucially midway through the half Rosemount kicked four unanswered points with David Mc Cormack, Declan Mullen and the lively Ben Cox all on target. The visitors raised the green flag on the 24th minute mark and from here they never looked back. They were unlucky not to have a second goal soon after when they hit the crossbar and blues goalkeeper Stephen Gallagher tapped over the rebounded effort. Points were exchanged with Shane Dempsey kicking over all the blues scores as Rosemount had a half team lead of 1.10 to 0.08.

The second half mirrored the first with Rosemount completely on top and when they converted a penalty ten minutes into the half the game was all but over. Shane Dempsey added five points to his tally while young TJ Cox kicked over a fine effort late on. While it was a tough day at the office for the blues a few of our younger players gained plenty of experience of top division football and it will stand to them in the future.

Division 3

St Lomans Mullingar 0.12 Tyrrellspass 0.12

An entertaining encounter in Lakepoint Park between St Lomans and Tyrrellspass finished all square on Friday night last with both teams feeling they could have come out of the game with a win!

It was a close game for the majority but a bright start from Tyrrellspass saw them go three points in front before a wonderful point from Garrett Hickey got St Lomans off the mark. The visitors added another point before Hickey was on target again with two scores one from a placed ball and another after linking up with Sam Mc Cartan. The sides were level at the break after further scores were traded with Hickey adding to his tally and Billy O Loughlin getting his name on the scoresheet.

St Lomans made a decent start to the second half and outscored the visitors in the opening ten minutes with two points from Chris Gilbert and another from Daniel Sheridan. Four unanswered points from Tyrrellspass saw the scoreboard overturned once again in their favour.

St Lomans cause wasn’t helped when they were reduced to fourteen players after a second yellow card offence from Billy O Loughlin. St Lomans battles hard to their credit and were unlucky not to register a goal after Chris Gilbert’s penalty was saved and rebound was somehow tipped over by Tyrrellspass goalkeeper Zack Taylor in a save of the season contender! The visitors had a two-point lead heading into the closing stages but a late brace of points from Garrett Hickey levelled the scores as both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Team; Stephen Gallagher, Senan Russell, Andrew Purcell, Jack Tyrrell, Sean Lancaster, Sean Kelly, Eoghan O Keeffe, Daniel Sheridan(0.02), Cathal Burke, Chris Gilbert(0.03), James Cox, Sam Mc Cartan, Garrett Hickey(0.06,4f), Conan O Hara, Billy O Loughlin(0.01). Sub Used; Johnny Mee.

ACL Division 5

St Lomans Mullingar 0.04 Rosemount 4.14

The late withdrawal of several key players over the previous twenty-four hours meant that St. Lomans fielded a very diverse team last Saturday evening in Lakepoint Park.

There were good performances from Andy Purcell and Cathal Burke at 3 and 6 respectively, and others to play well included youngsters like Baker, Boyce, McKenna, Cox, McNamee and Nugent.

Last year witnessed this side field a father-and-son partnership (Jack & Jonathan Nugent), last Saturday saw this satisfying feat repeated when Stephen Sheridan lined out at corner back with his father Martin in goals.

This game will probably be best-remembered for the reappearance of some of the more senior club members, with some donning the blue jersey for the first time in years. Division 5 selector (and club Chairman) Aidan Davitt played the entire game on the half forward line alongside his illustrious brother James. Dwayne Egerton never lost his scoring touch and slotted over 3 nice points from play, and there were also solid performances from stalwarts Adam Carroll, Aido Charles and Tommy Lambden.

Rosemount were the better team on the day and fully deserved their win, however the sixteen players who participated with the Blues last Saturday can hold their heads high, as despite the unflattering score line St. Lomans acquitted themselves well considering the circumstances.

Team; Martin Sheridan, Stephen Sheridan, Andy Purcell, Adam Carroll, James Baker, Cathal Burke, Aido Charles, James Cox (0-1), Tommy Lambden, James Davitt, Shane Boyce, Aidan Davitt, Andy McKenna, Dwayne Egerton (0-3), Mark McNamee. Sub Jonathan Nugent.
