U14 Boys Retain Title With Heroic Display!
16-10-2017

St Lomans Mullingar 5.03 Coralstown Kinnegad 1.13

St Lomans retained their U14 Championship title with an enthralling win against a strongly fancied Coralstown Kinnegad team in Cusack Park on Saturday morning last. The game was edge of the seat stuff from start to finish with both teams deserving credit for the entertainment they provided. Goals win games and this was certainly the case on this occasion as five goals from the blues proved decisive with Danny Ojo the four-goal hero while Ciaran Nooney also got in on the act.

Kinnegad opened the scoring with a point but a dream start was to follow for St Lomans. Danny Ojo rattled in three goals with ease after been set up by Cian Daly and Danny Mc Cartan while Ciaran Nooney buried a shot low to the net after a goal mouth tussle. In between these blues goalkeeper Daire Keane made a top class save to deny Kinnegad. They got their goal soon after and this spurred them into life as they kicked six unanswered points. Danny Mc Cartan got the final say of the half with a pointed free to leave St Lomans two points in front.

St Lomans got their fifth goal two minutes into the second half with man of the match Danny Ojo tapping in his fourth goal after Ciaran Nooney’s shot had been saved. This would be St Lomans last score until near the end of the half as Kinnegad mounted serious pressure to overturn the scores. St Lomans stood strong and put in a heroic second half performance. David Aughey worked hard throughout while all six defenders put everything on the line! Kinnegad got the deficit down to two points and with St Lomans down to thirteen players after second yellow offences it looked impossible to hold on but the blues duly did and there were joyess scenes when the referee blew the final whistle.
