Ladies Retain Championship Title!!!
11-09-2017

St Lomans Mullingar 1.11 Milltown 1.07

St Lomans Ladies retained their championship title with a win against Milltown in The Downs on Saturday evening last. A strong second half performance from the blues most notably from captain Aileen Martin and an impressive sixty minutes from Lucy Mc Cartan ensured a four-point win.

Leanne Slevin opened the scoring with a point for Milltown before Leona Archibold, Vicky Carr and Megan Ennis all raised the white flag to give the blues the lead. The second quarter belonged to Milltown and five unanswered points gave them the advantage. Leona Archibold was unlucky not to score a goal on two occasions in injury time but one of her efforts did result in a point to leave a point between the teams at half time.

St Lomans upped their game considerably in the second half. Leona Archibold (3) and Vicky Carr points gave the blues the lead but a quick 1.01 from Milltown swung the game back in their favour. The blues responded like champions and shortly after a Leona Archibold point Aileen Martin buried a shot to the back of the net. The blues never looked back from here and further points from Ciara Blundell and Lucy Mc Cartan sealed a four-point win.

Well done to the players and management on this success. Championships are not easily won not least back to back titles! After the game Lucy Mc Cartan was awarded the Player Of The Match award!
