St Lomans Mullingar 2.12 The Downs 2.13

St Lomans suffered defeat to The Downs by the narrowest of margins in the Junior Championship in Lakepoint Park on Thursday evening last. The result means the lads can’t make the knock out stages of the championship.

St Lomans made a bright start with Chris Gilbert in great form scoring 1.01 in the opening six minutes, these followed after Daniel Sheridan had opened the scoring with a point. The visitors kept in touch and responded to most of the blues scores as Shane Boyce, Daniel Sheridan, Chris Gilbert and Tristan Johnson added further points. A quick free from The Downs saw them get their first goal while two points soon followed to level the game.  Michael Gleeson added a point before the break but it was The Downs who finished the half strong a lead by a single point at the break.

The Downs extended their lead immediately from the re start with a point before Kevin Regan sent an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. The visitors responded soon after with a goal of their own. Both teams traded scores in a competitive second half. James Cox(2) and Chris Gilbert points kept the blues in contention before Paddy Lynam kicked from distance to level the scores. The Downs however fisted a late chance over the bar to seal a one point win.
