St Lomans Mullingar 6.13 Mullingar Shamrocks 1.08

St Lomans finished their championship group with maximum points and booked their place in the Quarter Final with a win in Lakepoint Park against neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks. The scoreline doesn’t reflect the competitiveness of the game for the majority with a strong finish from the blues seeing them break away from their neighbours challenge.

It was tit for tat in the opening thirty minutes with each blues score responded to by a resilient Mullingar Shamrocks side. Sam Mc Cartan was on target with a point while Conan O Hara was deadly accurate from placed balls kicking four points. The hard work of Paul Smith seen him fouled for the majority of O Hara’s frees.  Cian Cleary was unlucky not to raise the green flag when hitting the woodwork on two occasions. Oisín Hogan kicked a fine point as he enjoyed an impressive display in midfield. St Lomans eventually got their first goal with Stephen Sheridan finishing off a fine move involving Shane Broughan and Paul Smith. Both teams traded a point in the closing stages of the half as the blues held a four point lead at the break.

St Lomans stepped things up a notch on the resumption of play. The introduction of Adam Lynch at full back paid dividends with him having an immediate impact intercepting a Shamrocks attack. His pass out off defence started a move that resulted in a Conan O Hara goal.  Sam Mc Cartan(2) and Fola Ayorinde added points before Paul Smith hit the blues third goal. St Lomans added three further goals in a clinical final quarter with Fola Ayorinde, Shane Boyce and Conan O Hara the scorers. The classy Sam Mc Cartan added two further points while Paul Smith was also on target in a comfortable finish for St Lomans.
