Senior Ladies

St Lomans Mullingar 3.11 Milltown 1.02

St Lomans Ladies retained their Division 1 League title in emphatic fashion with a dominant win against Milltown in Kinnegad on Thursday evening last. The wet conditions didn’t deter from a wonderful display from the ladies.

The majority of the first half was a close affair with defending from both sides top class. Indeed as a result the sides were level on a point each after twenty minutes with Katie Dunne kicking St Lomans score. While the whole back line did their job to full effect the likes of Sandra Mc Grath and Rebecca Dunne stood out in particular. Goalkeeper Amy Matthews made a great save to deny Milltown a goal on the thirteenth minute.

St Lomans turned the screw late in the half and scored 1.05 to a single point for Milltown.  Lucy Mc Cartan, Vicky Carr, Laura Newman and Leona Archibold were point scorers while Ciara Blundell capitalised on a quick free from Lucy Mc Cartan to bury in the blues first goal.

A clinical start to the second half put the game out of reach for Milltown. From the throw in a speculative effort from Vicky Carr dropped to the net for St Lomans second goal. The ladies really got into their rhythm with some of their passing moves of the highest standard most notably a Ciara Blundell point. Laura Newman was deadly accurate when given the opportunity and added two points either side of a Leona Archibold point.

Full back Muireann Scally proved her worth with a goal line clearance and not long after the hard working Julie Mc Loughlin was in the right place at the right time to do the same. Substitute Sarah Mc Manus added a point late on before Ciara Blundell got her second goal with a classy finish. Proof of the blues excellent defensive display was further evident as the only score conceded in the second half was a late goal from Milltown.

Well done to the players and management as titles are not easy won and a great foundation has been laid for the upcoming championship campaign!

Early in the game young Sarah Dillion from Milltown suffered an injury and was unable to continue. We hope it’s not too serious and wish her a speedy recovery.

Division 3

The Division 3 team finished out their league campaign recently with mixed results. They suffered defeat to Killucan before beating Kilbeggan Shamrocks 4.11 to 2.15 in Lakepoint Park. This campaign was a vast improvement on our last few seasons in this Division and great experienced of adult football gained for our younger players.

U12 Girls

St Lomans under 12 girls travelled to Killucan on May 31st to play their final match in round one of the league. This team had won their previous four games against Mullingar Shamrocks, Clann Gaels, Ballycomoyle and St Paul's.

The game started well for St Lomans with Abbey Norris and Caoimhe Kilmurray controlling midfield. Anything passing midfield Niamh McKenna, Alysha Brown and Lucia Weir were dealing with, keeping the defence tight. Up front Meabh O Hara and Ashling Granaghan were working well together and Maebh had 3 goals scored in a five-minute period. Paige Tyrell Matthews chipped in with some lovely points. St Lomans led comfortably at half time.

The second half was very tight though and Killucan came right back into the game but substitute Aine McKenna, Zoe Woods, Clodagh Mc Glynn, Grace Byrne, Abbey Devine, Eva Maleady alongside goalkeeper Shannon McCormack held on for a good victory on the score of 6.09 to 2.05.
