ACL Division 1

St Lomans Mullingar 3.14 Coralstown Kinnegad 3.04

St Lomans travelled to Kinnegad on Friday evening last and recorded an important win with Ronan O Toole grabbing the headlines thanks to a hattrick of goals.

St Lomans set their mark early in the game with Ken Casey scoring four points in the opening twenty minutes. Kinnegad registered 1.02 in between these but that would their total first half tally. Ronan O Toole, Kieran Lynam and Casey added points before O Toole scored his first goal to leave St Lomans 1.09 to 1.02 in front at the break.

Two spectacular goals a minute apart early in the second half from Ronan O Toole put the blues in a commanding position and they never looked back. Jack Tyrrell, Billy O Loughlin, Ciaran Kilmurray and Daniel Sheridan were all point scorers. Kinnegad did hit a purple patch as St Lomans made some changes but the blues were not for beating and ran out ten point winners.

ACL Division 3

St Lomans Mullingar 1.14 Mullingar Shamrocks 1.14

St Lomans hosted neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in the Division 3 League on a sunny Sunday morning last. The game was played on the 3G pitch and made for a fast-paced game of football with both team’s feeling they could have come away with maximum points.

It was the visitors who started better in the opening ten minutes with Gary Corroon kicking three points and Simon Quinn also on target. Garrett Hickey had given St Lomans a brief lead when his deflected shot found its way to the net. Billy O Loughlin levelled the game before a Jason Daly save denied Shamrocks a goal initially before Simon Quinn scored from the rebound. Both teams traded scores midway through the half with Garrett Hickey, James Cox, Chris Gilbert and Billy O Loughlin on target for the blues. Senan Russell made a number of crucial defensive blocks to deny Shamrocks further scores. Late points from Darren Kenna, Paddy Joyce and Simon Quinn saw the

visitors two points up at half time.

A Garrett Hickey free cancelled out a Paddy Joyce point early in the second half. Fola Ayorinde enjoyed his best patch in the third quarter and a wonderful catch and run saw him raise the white flag. Garrett Hickey(3) added some wonderful scores while centre back Eoghan O Keeffe was also on target as St Lomans edged their way in front heading into the final ten minutes. Jack Tyrell made a wonderful goal line clearance to deny Shamrocks a goal while St Lomans were unlucky not to have a goal of their own soon after. Three unanswered points from the visitors gave them a one point lead heading into injury time. With Shamrocks defending deep to hold onto their lead it looked near impossible to score until a wonderful long range effort from Daniel Sheridan curled between the posts to level the scores with the last kick of the game.

Minor League

St Lomans Mullingar 4.09 St Mary’s Rochfortbridge 1.09

St Lomans Minors travelled to Rochfortbridge on a sunny Wednesday evening last and earned an important win in this league encounter. It was as strong as this team had lined out this year and they certainly look like a team that will play a major part in the business end of the season.

St Marys opened the scoring with a point as the home side started much the better and mounted pressure on the blues defence. Eoin Fox and Enda Gaffney although operating in the forward line tracked back with crucial blocks to deny the home side certain scores. A pivotal five minute spell saw St Lomans score 2.02 without reply. Conan O Hara who was superb throughout finished off a fine move set up by Shane Boyce and Enda Gaffney to kick a point for the blues. Gaffney himself was on target soon after. Centre back Shane Broughan who was wonderful at centre back got St Lomans first goal before Adam Lynch buried home a second goal a minute later. The home side responded with a point before Shane Boyce cancelled it out with a converted free. Sam Mc Cartan got the final say of the half with a classy finish to the net off his left boot.

St Mary’s made a strong start to the second half and kicked 1.03 in the first ten minutes. St Lomans though were determined to hold on to their lead and replied with points from Shane Boyce(2) and Conan O Hara. The blues fourth goal came mid way through the half when Stephen Sheridan fisted to the net. It capped a wonderful move involving Tristan Johnson, Conan O Hara and Sam Mc Cartan. Both team’s added further points in the closing stages but it was St Lomans who came away nine point winners!
