Division 5

St Lomans Mullingar 3.08 Ballymore 3.07

St Lomans left it late before picking up maximum points against a determined Ballymore side in Lakepoint Park under floodlights on Friday evening last.

Despite the scoreboard showing St. Lomans trailing by four points at half time they had actually played quite well and displayed some attractive football at times. It was the concession of three goals in the opening twenty minutes (goals that varied from sloppy to fortunate) that left St Lomans facing an uphill struggle. However, the Blues refused to panic and they chipped away with some nice points coming from Tristan Johnson, Chris Gilbert, Garrett Hickey and Eoin Fox whilst it was Evan Meleady that hit the Ballymore net. The score at half time read St. Lomans 1-5 to Ballymore’s 3-3.

During half-time several positional changes were made along with one substitute being introduced for the second half all of which paid early dividends. Enda Lambden was brought out to midfield and played excellently throughout while Hickey was moved to full forward and distributed the ball superbly whilst bagging another 1-2 for himself. The substitute Stephen Sheridan scored a cracking goal and Senan Russell scored a screamer after initially winning the ball from his own corner back position. With ten minutes to go St. Lomans had finally levelled the game and most Ballymore attacks were being repelled by the likes of Sean Kelly, Jack Tyrrell and the excellent Seanie Dinnegan. The lead changed hands several times from there on in but when referee Ken Daly blew the final whistle The Blues had held on for a very deserved win.

Team; Joe Matthews (C), Sean Regan, Sean Kelly, Senan Russell (1-0), Jack Tyrrell, Seanie Dinnegan, Tristian Johnson (0-1), Eoghan O’Keeffe, Chris Gilbert (0-1), Michael Gleeson, Garrett Hickey (1-3), Eoin Fox (0-2), Evan Meleady (1-0), Enda Lambden, Conor Matthews. Subs Used; Gerry Farrell, Stephen Sheridan (1-0), Andrew McKenna, Ryan Cleary.

U16 League

St Lomans Mullingar 2.12 Milmore Gaels 5.10

The U16 lads were beaten at home to Milmore Gaels on Monday evening last in Lakepoint Park. The blues trailed by a single point at half time but they failed to capitalise on a strong wind advantage in the second half. Plenty of positivise can be taken from the game as the lads are improving with every match played.

U12 League

The U12 boys continued their League campaign with a win against the Downs in the Downs on Wednesday last.

The scoring started early with good interaction between the forwards and midfielders that saw St Lomans build up an early cushion to go in at half time with a comfortable lead. Goals from Mark Tunney, Seanai Bracken and Harry Mannering while points from Harry, Seanai, Daniel, Mark, Shane and Ross stretched the advantage in the first half.

The team were against the wind in the second half and the defence came under more pressure from the Downs but they maintained its composure and kept a good physical Downs team at bay with good defending from David, Kyle, Louis and Byron and goalkeeper Liam.

The wide men of Adam and Daniel also played a role in breaking forward to act as a link between defence and attack. Goals from Dion, Harry and points from Jamie and Shane closed out the result in St Lomans favour. The introduction of Ben McGrath up front gave the Downs defence more to think about and special mention to Nathan Sleator who controlled the game from centre half back breaking forward from defence to set up many a scoring opportunity for the team, a lesson was given in close hand passing and running over the shoulder by Nathan.

Team; Liam McKenna, David Geoghegan, Byron Graham, Louis McGrath, Daniel Connaughton, Nathan Sleator, Adam Brady, Ross Gilladea , Harry Mannering, Shane Muldarry, Seanai Bracken, Dion Le Bualt, Mark Tunney , Kyle Meleady , Jamie Ronan, Ben McGrath.
