ACL Division 1

St Lomans Mullingar 4.23 St Mary’s Rochfortbridge 0.12

St Lomans cruised to victory against St Marys Rochfortbridge in Lakepoint Park on a glorious Sunday morning last. The score line could have at least six more goals but for the heroics of St Mary’s goalkeeper Francis Heavey and also the woodwork!

Ken Casey opened the scoring with a point before three unanswered scores put St Marys in front. David Windsor and Shane Dempsey both raised the white flag to level the game either side of John Heslin and Ken Casey goal chances. It was from here that St Lomans took control with Heslin(9) Ronan O Toole and Kelvin Reilly adding points before a sublime effort from Ronan O Toole off his weaker right foot finally beat Rochfortbridge goalkeeper Francis Heavey to register St Lomans first goal. Shane Dempsey got the final say of the half with a point.

The second half mirrored the first with the blues in clinical mood. John Heslin added further points and a fisted goal to his tally. Both the blues wing backs Kieran Lynam and David Whelan raised the green flag while Ken Casey added a point to his account. St Lomans introduced a number of changes and it was good to see the younger players of the squad like Chris Gilbert, Sean Lancaster, Sean Kelly and Eoghan O Keeffe gain further senior experience.

ACL Division 3

St Lomans Mullingar 1.17 Ballinagore 1.11

St Lomans impressive run in the Division 3 League continued when they won away to Ballinagore on Saturday evening last. A small squad travelled but those who did put on a solid display to earn another win for the blues.

Paddy Ennis opened the scoring for the home side with a point, the corner forward was without doubt the home sides stand out player. St Lomans clicked into gear with man of the match Eoin Fox kicking three points along with scores from Sean Lancaster and Garrett Hickey. Foxy’s class along with the speed of Chris Gilbert and midfield display from Daniel Sheridan were causing trouble for the home side. Paddy Ennis was on target twice from frees midway through the half but the blues clocked up three further points from Fox(2) and Hickey. Sean Lancaster added his second point to cancel out a Ballinagore point. The deficit was down to two points when the home side buried a penalty to the roof of the net on the stroke of half time.

Ballinagore introduced a number of changes at half time with some of their most experienced players entering the field including former Westmeath star Michael Ennis. The changes proved effective and a ding dong second half battle ensued. Garrett Hickey used all his know how to beat the Ballinagore defence and finish to the net for a St Lomans goal. The home side though kept in touch with points of their own. Daniel Sheridan got his name on the scoresheet with two fine points. Ballinagore were unlucky not the get their second goal but were denied by the crossbar. The blues weathered the storm and regained control in the final quarter adding points from Garrett Hickey(2), Chris Gilbert (3) and Tristan Johnson to seal a six-point win.
