First Win In Division 3
06-03-2017

St Lomans Mullingar 3.12 Castletown Finea 0.14

St Lomans got their first win in the Division 3 League on Sunday morning last on the 3G Pitch in Lakepoint Park. The weekends torrential rain took the morning off leaving perfect conditions for football hence the high score line.

The visitors opened the scoring with a point before a great pass from Fola Ayorinde set up Garrett Hickey who finished to the net with aplomb. Hickey pointed a free soon after to extend St Lomans lead. The blues took control of the game from here winning key battles around the pitch. Mark Browne lead the line from centre back while the aforementioned Hickey was the key man in attack indeed he would add a further three points to his tally later in the half. Chris Gilberts run was rewarded when he raised the green flag with his shot heading in off the post. Forwards Eoin Fox, James Cox and Declan Colgan(2) got in on the act with points for the blues. The visitors kept in touch with scores from placed balls but it was the blues who had a seven-point lead at the break.

Joe Rabbitte opened the scoring in the second half with a point for the visitors before St Lomans added three unanswered points from Hickey(2) and substitute Shane Cleary. Castletown to their credit battled hard and finished the game the stronger adding six points. However, when Garrett Hickey was fouled in the box and duly converted the resulting penalty the game was put beyond doubt and sealed the win for St Lomans.
