ACFL Division 1:

St Loman’s Mullingar 1.10 Coralstown Kinnegad 0.13

St Loman’s left Kinnegad on Friday night with their unbeaten status in Division 1 still intact after being held to a stalemate by Coralstown Kinnegad. Ger Leech got the hosts on the board with an early score before Paul Whelehan equalised for the Saints. Shortly afterwards Kinnegad almost found the Blues’ net but had to settle for a point after a terrific save from Stephen Gallagher. Both teams then traded points with David Whelan on target for Loman’s.

The Hosts got on top midway through the First Half, with conditions playing their part. Kinnegad would take advantage of the gale force wind scoring four points without reply, with three points from Ger Leech and a well-taken score from James Maxwell. The Blues trailed by five points but were given a lifeline when Sean Lancaster was taken down by the Kinnegad Goalkeeper, resulting in a penalty for the visitors. Paul Whelehan duly converted the spot kick and reduced the arrears to two points. Whelehan slotted over another free shortly afterwards to leave the Saints a point down at half-time.

St Loman’s started the Second half brightly with two excellent points from Paul Whelehan and David Whelan to put them a point to the good. The Hosts fought back strongly though with four points in the space of five minutes to leave the Blues a tough task to get anything form the game. The Saints responded well though and with three deadly accurate frees from Paul Whelehan it was level once again.

Two Ger Leech freess restored a two point lead for the Hosts but new man Paul Whelehan added two more points from placed balls to leave him with an impressive tally of 1.08 and the match all square yet again. Kinnegad had a late chance to win it but Ger Leech’s free went to the right and wide. The referee blew his full time whistle with both sides having to settle for a point.

Team; Stephen Gallagher, Tristan Graham, Darragh O’Keefe, Conor O’Donoghue, Paddy Dowdall, Kelvin Reilly, Sean Lancaster, Stephen Gallagher, Sean Flanagan, Paddy Lynam, Sam McCartan, Chris Gilbert, TJ Cox, Paul Whelehan (1.08), David Whelan (0.02). Subs used; Conan O’Hara, Senan Russell, Jack Tyrrell.

ACFL Division 5:

St. Lomans Mullingar 6-08 St. Josephs 0-12

Round 2 of Division 5 saw a truly blistering opening period from St. Loman’s, which saw St. Josephs trail the Blues by no less than 12 points, with only 9 minutes on the clock. Man-of-the-match Garrett Hickey, produced a remarkable scoring performance, netting 4 goals in the said 9 minutes and the Hick ended up scoring a grand total of 5-5 (5-4 from play) by the time referee Jody Moran blew the final whistle.

The opposition never really recovered from this hammer blow, but in fairness to St. Josephs they never gave up. However, for the second week in a row St. Loman’s robust defence did not concede any goals. James McKenna pulled off 4 brilliant saves throughout the match, Adam Carroll and Oisin Hogan were excellent in central defence, and they were ably flanked on the wings by Rory Sheehan, Ollie Plunkett, Mickey Gleeson and Paddy Lynam. Darragh O’Keefe and Tommy Lambden held a controlling influence in the midfield area. Sean Daly was also on fire and Sean contributed 1-2 (from play) to leave the half time score reading St. Loman’s 5-04 to St. Josephs 0-05.

Stephen Sheridan and Johnno Plunkett were introduced for the 2nd half and Loman’s resumed this half with a neat point from Conan O’Hara, after good work by Andy McKenna, James Cox and Gary Bridges. St. Josephs then hit a purple patch and reeled off 4 good points, before Hickey tapped over St. Loman’s only score which wasn’t from play. Again, St Joseph’s fought back and this time they scored another 3 points, however it was to no avail as that man Hickey hit the back of the net again, prior to firing over another 2 points from play, to leave the final scoreline at St. Lomans 6-08 to St. Josephs 0-12. St. Loman’s will travel to Moynihan Park in 2 weeks’ time, to face Ballynacargy in Round 3 of the league.

Team; James McKenna, Rory Sheehan, Adam Carroll (c), Ollie Plunkett, Mickey Gleeson, Oisin Hogan, Paddy Lynam, Darragh O’Keefe, Tommy Lambden, Gary Bridges, Conan O’Hara (0-1), Sean Daly (1-2), James Cox, Garrett Hickey (5-5) & Andy McKenna. Subs used; Stephen Sheridan & Johnno Plunkett.

Under 16 League:

St Loman’s under 16s suffered their first defeat in this year’s league in Lakepoint Park today in a round 3 game with Kinnegad.

Fielding with 7 changes to the team from the first two rounds due to lads being unavailable and losing Danny McCartan and Tyreke Creevy to injury before half time. The lads battled hard with Ciaran Smyth and Owen Hogan leading the fight at the back and David Aughey and Josh Folan trying hard up front.

Next up is Lilliput Gaels this Friday evening in Lakepoint Park at 5:15
