Senior Leagues

It was a busy weekend for our senior teams with all three in action! On Friday night the Division 3 team travelled to Killucan and recorded an impressive 4-10 to 1-09 win. The Division 5 team were on the wrong side of a 3-15 to 1-10 score-line when they hosted The Downs in Lakepoint Park on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning the Division 1 team hosted Coralstown Kinnegad and the teams couldn’t be separated with the game ending in a draw.

ACL Division 5

St Loman’s Mullingar 1.10  The Downs 3.15

St. Lomans performed well for the majority of this entertaining match, played in Lakepoint Park last Saturday evening.

Adam Carroll’s decision to play with the advantage of a strong breeze soon paid dividends as St. Lomans raced into an early lead with good points from Tristan Graham, Mickey Gleeson, Paddy Lynam and a long range free from Eoghan O’Keefe. With Daryl Quinn causing problems for the Downs full back line, the team were motoring well, however St. Lomans received a blow when full back Mark Browne went off injured after 15 minutes, and thereafter the Downs rattled off some good scores to go two points ahead. A good point from Johnny Brady, and another goal and a point from the lively Tristan Graham left St. Lomans going into the break at halftime with a two-point lead, on a 1-6 to 1-4 score line.

Gerry Farrell replaced the injured Tommy Lambden at half time and Gerry quickly got his name on the scoresheet with a fine point from play. Jack Tyrell and Andy Purcell were playing well in defence, and up front there were further points from Gleeson and Shane Broughan which left St. Lomans in a good position midway through the second half.

However, it was at this stage that the Blues began to show signs of tiredness, and the visitors duly dominated the last quarter, reeling off several unanswered scores which would ultimately win the game for them. For the second week in a row, the final score of the game came from Tristan Johnson who ran tirelessly through-out and capped off a fine performance from his regular corner-back position.

Next up for St. Lomans is a home game against Tubberclair, provisionally fixed for next Sunday morning.
