ACL Division 1

St Lomans Mullingar 2.07 Milltownpass 0.11

St Lomans got back to winning ways in the Division 1 League on Friday night last with a two-point win against a determined Milltownpass team. The blues welcomed back the trio of Paddy Dowdall, David Whelan and Paul Sharry and the three had a major effect on the outcome of the game.

Shane Dempsey opened the scoring with a point immediately from the throw in but the visitors were in front within two minutes with Sam Duncan twice on target. The move of the match soon followed when Paul Sharry and David Whelan linked up that seen a classy finish from Sharry rattle the roof of the net.

Milltownpass reduced the margin with an Evan Gorman point before Shane Dempsey added two scores to his tally. The visitors had the better of the second quarter clocking up four points with David Windsor and Paul Sharry points in between these keeping the blues in front. The crucial moment of the game arrived on the 30th minute when a wonderful run from David Whelan seen his effort blocked before TJ Cox bravely fisted to the net for St Lomans second goal.

The second half wasn’t a classic from St Lomans point of view as it took them until the 24th minute of the half to register their next score. Both sides were guilty of missing scoring chances but three points from Milltownpass kept them in touch. Some solid defending from St Lomans kept them at bay and two late Paul Sharry points sealed the win for the blues.

St Lomans Mullingar 0.07 Multyfarnham 0.12

A late change of venue saw St Lomans host Multyfarnham on the 3G pitch in Lakepoint Park on Friday evening last. The game was played at a decent pace through out on the perfect surface with the visitors in truth the better team.

Multy had the better of the possession in the first half but it wasn’t a high scoring opening 30 minutes with the scores reading 5points to 1 point in favour of the Leinster Junior Champions. Sam Mc Cartan was on target for St Lomans.

The visitors made a clinical start to the second half and added a further five points without reply to give them complete control of proceedings. St Lomans to their credit never gave up and outscored their opponents by four points in the last quarter with James Cox kicking all of the blues six points but it was Multy who went home with the win.

Well done to our U14 boys who had a 3.10 to 1.08 win against Moate in Lakepoint Park on Thursday evening last. The hard work from the boys in training recently is starting to pay dividends with a wonderful display particularly their passing skills.
