Senior Championship

St Lomans Mullingar 1.12 Coralstown Kinnegad 1.06

St Lomans booked their place in the championship final after a hard earned six-point win against Coralstown Kinnegad on Sunday afternoon last. A Ken Casey goal late in the game sealed the win for St Lomans to set up a repeat of last year’s decider against Tyrrellspass.

Kinnegad set their stall out early and it was obvious from early on that this game wasn’t going to be a high scoring encounter. There were however a few early scores with three points each from both teams in the first eleven minutes. John Heslin (2) and Shane Dempsey were on target for St Lomans. Dempsey’s score came after a sublime Paul Sharry pass. Shane Flynn operating further out the field than normal kicked from distance while John Heslin got his third point after a powerful run through the Kinnegad defence.

St Lomans extended their lead at the start of the second half and put five points between the teams with Dempsey and Heslin(2) adding to their tallies. Darren Giles and Ger Leech added points to keep Kinnegad in touch but a period of five unanswered scores including David Windsor getting his name on the scoresheet left Kinnegad needing to throw caution to the wind with time running out. St Lomans punished them with two minutes left on the clock after a Paddy Dowdall interception sent John Heslin on his way for a counter attack. Heslin unselfishly set up Ken Casey who made no mistake and buried to the net. Kinnegad did respond with a goal of their own deep in injury time but it was all in vain as St Lomans finished six-point winners.

U14 Championship Final

St Lomans Mullingar 5.03 Coralstown Kinnegad 1.13

St Lomans retained their U14 Championship title with an enthralling win against a strongly fancied Coralstown Kinnegad team in Cusack Park on Saturday morning last. The game was edge of the seat stuff from start to finish with both teams deserving credit for the entertainment they provided. Goals win games and this was certainly the case on this occasion as five goals from the blues proved decisive with Danny Ojo the four-goal hero while Ciaran Nooney also got in on the act.

Kinnegad opened the scoring with a point but a dream start was to follow for St Lomans. Danny Ojo rattled in three goals with ease after been set up by Cian Daly and Danny Mc Cartan while Ciaran Nooney buried a shot low to the net after a goal mouth tussle. In between these blues goalkeeper Daire Keane made a top class save to deny Kinnegad. They got their goal soon after and this spurred them into life as they kicked six unanswered points. Danny Mc Cartan got the final say of the half with a pointed free to leave St Lomans two points in front.

St Lomans got their fifth goal two minutes into the second half with man of the match Danny Ojo tapping in his fourth goal after Ciaran Nooney’s shot had been saved. This would be St Lomans last score until near the end of the half as Kinnegad mounted serious pressure to overturn the scores. St Lomans stood strong and put in a heroic second half performance. David Aughey worked hard throughout while all six defenders put everything on the line! Kinnegad got the deficit down to two points and with St Lomans down to thirteen players after second yellow offences it looked impossible to hold on but the blues duly did and there were joyess scenes when the referee blew the final whistle.

Team; Daire Keane, Alex Mc Cormack, Finn Sheehan, Ciaran Smith, Jack Geoghegan, Eoghan Hogan, Ethan Brown, Bonji Ndevi, David Aughey(0.01f), Cillian Browne, Danny Mc Cartan(0.01f), Cian Daly, Danny Ojo(4.01), Tyreke Creevy, Ciaran Nooney(1.00). Sub Used; Cillian Plunkett.

Minor Girls Final

St Lomans Mullingar 3.07 Coralstown Kinnegad 5.12

St Lomans girls contested the Minor Championship Final against Coralstown Kinnegad in Killucan on Saturday evening last. St Lomans were against the wind in the first half and Kinnegad took advantage of it building up a lead that wouldn’t be overturned. First half goals from Niamh Egerton and Annie Graham kept St Lomans in touch. The blues tried to overturn the scores in the second half with Vicky Carr sending a thundering shot to the roof of the net. Kinnegad weren’t for beating and finished strong to seal the win.

It’s worth noting that 28 of the 31 girls that togged out are eligible for minor again next year so the experience of the weekend will stand to them with better days to come!

Minor Boys Championship

St Lomans Mullingar 2.12 Maryland Tang 2.08

St Lomans Minors booked their place in the championship final with a four-point win against Maryland Tang in Ballinagore on Saturday afternoon last. Goals from Fola Ayorinde and Conan O Hara proved the difference between the teams after sixty minutes.

Maryland Tang raced out of the blocks and were 1.03 to 0.01 up after the first quarter but a strong finish to the half from St Lomans saw the teams level at half time.

St Lomans started the second half brightly with goals from Fola Ayorinde and Conan O Hara. Maryland Tang showed great character and mounted serious pressure and were rewarded with a goal of their own. It set up a nervy finish for the blues with goalkeeper Daniel Fitzsimons pulling off two heroic saves. St Lomans survived the late scare and held on for a four-point win and now play Athlone in the final.
