Senior Ladies

St Lomans Mullingar 1.13 Confey 4.10

St Lomans ladies travelled to Leixlip on Sunday last for the first round of the Leinster Championship taking on Kildare champions Confey. The blues left themselves with too much to do in the second half as they trailed by 14 points at the break. Despite the deficit a much improved second half display saw the margin reduced the margin to just four points at one stage.

Confey were three points to the good before St Lomans registered a score. Early wides would prove costly for the blues before Ciara Blundell got them off the mark with a goal after been set up by Megan Ennis. Confey responded with two goals from player of the match Aine Gately. Ciara Blundell added a point to her name to cancel out a point from the Kildare side. Two late goals from Aine and Deirdre Gately left the blues with an impossible task trailing 4.06 to 1.01 at the break.

St Lomans upped their game considerably in the second half and weren’t going down without a fight. Ciara Blundell, substitute Sarah Mc Manus and Leona Archibold points began an unlikely comeback for St Lomans. Kerri Harding pointed for Confey before Mc Manaus, Archibold and Laura Newman added further points for St Lomans. Points were exchanged midway through the half before a spectacular save from Confey goalkeeper Mairead Scanlon denied Ciara Blundell a certain goal. It was clear this wasn’t to be St Lomans day. Further points from Leona Archibold(2) and Vicky Carr weren’t enough as Confey held on to progress to next round.
