St Lomans Mullingar 2.08 Mullingar Shamrocks 1.15

St Lomans hosted neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in the Feis Cup Semi Final in Lakepoint Park on Thursday evening last. The visitors, defending their Feis Cup crown, came away comfortable winners in what was a curtain raiser for their Championship opener in two weeks’ time.

It was Shamrocks who took the lead through a point from corner forward Darren Keena. Ken Casey (who would be St Lomans best performer) levelled the game after linking up with Ciaran Kilmurray. A goal and two points in quick succession restored Shamrocks lead that wouldn’t be overturned. Donal Donoghue was the goal scorer along with a point while Denis Corroon was also on target. Kieran Lynam rounded off a nice move with Billy O Loughlin to get a point of his own. Four points from Denis Corroon with two from play extended the visitors advantage. Ken Casey’s free’s kept St Lomans in touch before a late Tye Adamson 45m free gave Shamrocks an eight-point half time lead.

Ronan O Toole and Ken Casey points early in the second half cancelled out scores for Shamrocks. A wonderful move involving Fola Ayorinde, David Whelan and Ken Casey set up substitute Garrett Hickey who made no mistake and buried to the net. This gave the blues a glimmer of hope but Shamrocks responded well adding points from Darren Keena, Tye Adamson and Paddy Fagan. A late goal from Ken Casey wasn’t enough as Shamrocks finished deserving four-point winners.
