Division 3

St Lomans Mullingar 2.16 The Downs 0.13

St Lomans maintained their great start to the Division 3 league with a win against The Downs in Lakepoint Park on Friday evening last. It was perfect conditions and the game didn’t disappoint as the final score line would suggest.

It was a tight opening quarter with both teams kicking five points each. Kieran Lynam, Pat Walsh (2), Eoghan O Keeffe and Daniel Sheridan were on target for St Lomans. The blues stepped it up a gear in the second quarter and this proved to be a crucial period of the game raising the green flag twice. Michael Gleeson buried to the roof of the net after cleverly losing his marker while Daniel Sheridan finished off a fine move involving Ronan O Toole, Adam Lynch and Kieran Lynam. Other scores saw the blues nine points in front at the break.

The Downs were unlucky not to score a goal early in the second half been denied by the crossbar before a wonderful block on the line by the St Lomans rear-guard. It was a low scoring second half in contrast to the opening thirty minutes. Ronan O Toole was star of the show and was a threat throughout. Neil O Toole and Eoghan O Keeffe were best of a solid defensive display and earned a crucial win for the blues.
