Division 3

St Lomans Mullingar 1.14 Garrycastle 0.12

St Lomans recorded their second win in the Division 3 league after an impressive performance in Garrycastle on Friday night last.

Garrycastle made the better start and were two points to the good after five minutes. Points from Billy O Loughlin and Garrett Hickey soon levelled the scores with Hickeys a score of the game contender selling a dummy to his marker and curling the ball over the bar. The home side were lively on the counter attack and notched up three further points but a Declan Colgan goal in between these had the scores level once again going into the second quarter. St Lomans dominated the second quarter with Kieran Lynam and Mark Browne the stand out players for the blues. Nibblers got his name on the scoresheet while Billy O Loughlin and Garrett Hickey(2) added to their tallies. Browne and Daniel Sheridan also got in on the act in the closing stages of the half to cancel out scores from the home side.

Ronan O Toole was one of the top performers in the second half and opened the scoring with a point off his left foot after been set up by Adam Lynch. It was a keenly contested second half and St Lomans managed to remain in front throughout. Neil O Toole, Garrett Hickey(2) and Ronan O Toole(2) were on target to ensure the blues had the edge on the game. Garrycastle introduced a few changes and mounted pressure in search of a goal but the blues defence were not for breaching and held on for a five-point win.

Division 5

St Lomans Mullingar 1.15 Castledaly 1.08

St Lomans earned their first win of the season in the Division 5 League at home to Castledaly on Sunday last. While the two previous outings ended in defeat they were some encouraging performances and a win was only a matter of time. That win arrived on Sunday!

A dominant first half saw St Lomans nine points in front at the break. James Cox, Conor Matthews, Shane Boyce, Michael Gleeson, and Chris Gilbert were all on target. The second half was a much more competitive affair and it took a wonderful Joe Matthews save to deny them a goal early in the half. The did however get that goal but hope of a comeback was soon quenched when a classy finish from Shane Boyce raised the green flag for St Lomans.

Team; Joe Matthews, Sean Regan, Kevin Regan Sean Kelly, Sean Lancaster, Darragh O Keeffe, Michael Gleeson(0.01), Jonathon Plunkett, Tom Lambden, James Cox(0.05,2f), Chris Gilbert(0.04), Shane Boyce(1.04), Declan Colgan, Enda Lambden, Conor Matthews(0.01). Subs Used; Daniel Sheridan and Andrew Mc Kenna.

Busy Week

Our club facilities were tested to the limit recently with an abundance of activity on the club pitches. We hosted three Leinster Championship games in the last few weeks and Wednesday last proved the busiest day of them all! The P Drummond Cup took place on the 3G pitch with schools from Carlow and Tyrone contesting it. Later that evening Westmeath Minor and Senior Hurlers trained on the 3G Pitch while at the same time on the grass pitch a huge crowd looked on as Dublin defeated Longford in the Leinster U21 semi-final. Many thanks to all who helped on the night from our stewards to Ted and his team in the club shop!
