St Lomans Mullingar 0.12 Mullingar Shamrocks 0.10

Spring landed over the last few days and left conditions in complete contrast to the few matches played the previous week. St Lomans hosted neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks on a glorious mild Saturday evening last with the Lakepoint Park pitch in pristine condition after its first cut of the year! The game itself didn’t disappoint and was in the melting pot right up until the final whistle as is often the case between these two sides.

Shamrocks were first out of the traps and opened an early two-point lead with scores from Denis Corroon(free) and Donal O Donoghue. Shane Dempsey responded with a trademark point. John Heslin was denied a certain goal by a top class save from DJ Fedronas. Both sides traded scores midway through the half with Heslin and Ronan O Toole on target for the blues. St Lomans were denied two goals by  further saves from Fedronas and it left the onlooking crowd wondering would these proves costly in a half where St Lomans looked the better side. A wonderful move out of defence lead to John Heslin’s third point of the half to leave St Lomans a point in front at the break.

Ronan O Toole and John Heslin extended the blues lead early in the second half before the visitors enjoyed a purple patch outscoring St Lomans six points to one in a ten-minute period to put them back into a slender lead. Shane Dempsey set up Kelvin Reilly for another  goal opportunity only for Fedronas to deny St Lomans once again. The blues dug deep however with Paddy Dowdall, John Heslin and Shame Dempsey the stand out players particularly in the closing stages of the game.  The Demo Heslin combination both added a brace of points to secure a two-point win for St Lomans.
